Clinical Utility

Hema-screen SPECIFIC, a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), is a rapid, convenient qualitative immunoassay for the determination of human hemoglobin in feces, a vital tool in the diagnosis and therapy of gastrointestinal disorders. Traditionally, guaiac fecal occult blood testing methods have been used. However, guaiac methods have a low clinical sensitivity and specificity and false positive results due to dietary substances including meat and certain fruits, drugs, and other causes are common.
