The Pathology Laboratory has a wide spectrum of services to suit the community’s anatomic pathology needs as well as a number of clinical tests which men and women of all ages should be concerned about.
The Pathviewer System
PathViewer is a system that allows Internet access to all Anatomic Pathology and Cytology cases completed by The Pathology Laboratory since 1996. Access to this system is provided to all physicians who have an affiliation with The Pathology Laboratory. If you are interested in gaining access to this system, please contact Anne Rose.
The Pathology Laboratory Imaging System
The Imaging System is a utility designed to allow healthcare professionals access to our digital archive of anatomic pathology cases.
The Pathology Laboratory’s anatomic pathology services include biopsies, cytology cases, pap smears, frozen sections and fine needle aspirations. The Pathology Laboratory currently offers two types of pap testing. Pap tests are a very important screening test for cervical cancer. The Pap test can detect abnormal cells early in the disease process, even if an individual has not had any symptoms. We offer both the conventional traditional Pap smear and the new liquid based Thin Prep Pap test. Both tests are very effective in detecting abnormal cells, and patients have the option as to which test they would like to receive at their physician’s office
The Pathology Laboratory also offers a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) service, as an alternative to the traditional biopsy. The FNA is relatively painless, fast, and inexpensive. This method is applicable to palpable lesions, such as lesions of the breast, thyroid, lymph nodes as well as pediatric lesions. A diagnosis is usually rendered within minutes rather than days. This service can be provided in our laboratory or at another location by special request.
A properly trained Cytology Department is an important aspect of any pathology laboratory. Body fluids such as urine, spinal fluids, pleural and cyst fluids are processed and subject to a vast selection of standard and specialty staining processes. Upon conclusion of such studies, one is able to confirm or rule out a variety of major medical conditions without invasive procedures. We have two certified cytotechnologists and a physician’s assistant, as well as a fully staffed histology department with extensive special stains capabilities.
We offer a wide range of in-house testing to include thyroid, anemia, tumor markers (including CA125), fertility testing, PSA, not to mention numerous other tests such as obstetrical and gynecological laboratory services and HIV testing.
The College of American Pathologists and Department of Health and Hospitals inspect the Clinical Laboratory on a regular basis. Our staff consists of state and nationally certified Medical Technologists, Medical technicians, certified phlebotomists, and support services staff (couriers and secretaries).
Expensive high-tech instruments are used to process high volume testing within The Pathology Laboratory. The departments within the Clinical Laboratory are Hematology, Serology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Microbiology, and Parasitology. Most specimens are processed within hours and results are delivered via fax, phone, or couriers to the referring physicians.
Our State Certified Drug Screening Laboratory offers confidential, on-site collection, reliability, turn-around-time within hours, and personalized service. We also have a Medical Review Officer on staff. For those tests that we are unable to complete, we have an established relationship with Specialty Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics, Lab Corp, Promethius and Athena.
Our laboratory uses state of the art equipment and qualified medical technical personnel. We are pleased to offer our expertise and experience to meet the needs of our community.
